We are delighted to be able to offer a range of residential courses so you can combine learning to drive with the enjoyment of a holiday in one of the most beautiful parts of rural Mid Wales. It’s also good to know that the Victorian Spa Town of Llandrindod Wells (Landod to the locals) has pretty much the highest test pass rate in England and Wales.
A short drive to the majestic Elan Valley and less than an hour from the beautiful coastline of West Wales, Llandrindod offers a relaxed environment in which to learn a crucial life skill.
With largely rural roads and little in the way of busy town centres, the area is perfect for those with little or no experience at driving, with plenty of space to hone those essential basic skills. However, I want to help you prepare for a whole lifetime of driving in all conditions so the longer courses will also offer enough time towards the end of the course for more challenging environments such as busy towns, dual carriageways and motorways.
WHAT DO RESIDENTIAL DRIVING COURSES INVOLVE?
Well, as with all LDC training, the choice is up to you. However, as I will be arranging your accommodation, a certain amount of structure and planning is necessary. I offer the whole range of LDC intensive courses and the addition of a 40 hour course for those who are opting for a residential course as they find the whole prospect of driving maybe a bit daunting.
I will arrange for accommodation at one of a selection of guest houses in Llandrindod Wells. At the moment I have negotiated special rates with two properties in the town, Greylands and Highland Moors. Both offer a range of accommodation and can cater for any special dietary requirements. Prices are for Bed and Breakfast and start from as little as £39 per night. I will arrange your bookings but, although I have personally checked them out, I cannot take responsibility for the service, standard and condition of the B&B accommodation provided. Any complaint regarding B&B accommodation must be addressed directly to the proprietor of the guest house. Payment should be arranged directly with the property.
When planning your course you will need to work out the best way to get here. I will meet you at Llandrindod Wells railway station or, if you are coming with a partner or family member (maybe they fancy a holiday) we can arrange to meet at your guest house the evening before your first lesson. The station is on the Heart of Wales Line which can be a bit tricky to get to from some parts of the country. If necessary, I will collect you from Shrewsbury or Hereford which are more mainline stations. I will need to make a small additional charge of £50 each way to cover time and fuel for this.
So which course is right for you?? Your success is my success so I really want you to choose the correct course for your level of ability. Unlike my local pupils, I am not able to offer an assessment drive so it really is your call but here are a few things to think about:-
TEST BOOSTER COURSE- 15 HOURS INCLUDING THE TEST
This is really for anyone who has a high level of driving experience, has probably already taken a test or two and is looking for a less stressful environment in which to go for it again. The in-car training is 15 hours on a one pupil to one instructor basis. (This includes 2 hours for attending the driving test). Probably taken over 3 – 4 days with the test on the final day. This gives time to address any minor issues which may have prevented you passing on previous attempts. You will also need around 5 hours to complete the home study using the LD System.
MIDWAY PASS COURSE – 20 HOURS INCLUDING THE TEST
For those who have already learned the basic control skills of driving we have the Midway Pass Course.
The in-car training provided is 20 hours on a one pupil to one instructor basis. (This includes 2 hours for attending the driving test) and can be scheduled over 4 – 6 days. You need to allocate a further 5 hours to complete the home study, using the LD System, bringing the total duration of this course to around 25 hours.
ONE WEEK INTENSIVE COURSE – 30 HOURS INCLUDING THE TEST
This is for anyone who has maybe a small amount of driving experience, possibly not with a driving instructor. The in-car training provided is 30 hours on a one pupil to one instructor basis. (This includes 2 hours for attending the driving test). You need to allocate a further 10 hours to complete the home study, using the LD System bringing the total duration of this course to around 40 hours. This course can be taken within a 7 – 10 day period.
40 HOUR PACKAGE
This is ideal for anyone who has never sat behind the wheel of a car before or someone who finds the whole idea of driving a bit of a challenge (you may like to take a look at a piece written by a former pupil of mine on his fear of driving). The in-car training is 40 hours on a one to one basis (This includes 2 hours for attending the driving test). You need to allocate a further 10 hours to complete the home study, using the LD System. I would normally suggest 8-10 days period for this course.
So you have chosen your ideal residential course and are looking forward to your time in beautiful Mid Wales. Please contact me via the contact form, I’ll give you a call and we can take it from there. I look forward to our time together.
